Learn German online, at your own pace
Learn German online with A1–C2 starter lessons, English explanations and AI study plans. Take a free level test and build skills for work, study and exams.
Build an online German study routine
Start with a realistic goal: introducing yourself, understanding a work email or preparing for a particular exam. Choose a level, read the English explanation and work through the German examples. Return to difficult topics before adding more material. The current public lessons are starting points, not a complete six-level curriculum.
Connect your German practice to your next step
Everyday communication, university admission and professional registration call for different skills. Keep a vocabulary list for your own situation and practise using new structures in short messages or conversations. If you need an official certificate, check the required exam and level with the receiving institution before choosing preparation materials.
Use AI to organise your learning
With a free account, you can save a placement result and request an AI-generated study plan. Treat the plan as a suggested routine, not a verified assessment or a guarantee of progress. Check unfamiliar language against reliable references and include listening and speaking practice alongside these text-based starter lessons.
Frequently asked questions
Can I learn German online as a complete beginner?
Yes. Start with the A1 overview and introductory lessons. English explanations help you understand basic sentence patterns before trying the German examples. Build a regular routine and add listening and speaking practice as you progress.
Which German level should I start with?
If you have never studied German, begin with A1. Otherwise, take the free placement test for a rough estimate, then read the learning goals for that level. The result is a starting suggestion, not an official CEFR assessment.
What is free on Novalis Academy?
The public level overviews, starter lesson explanations and examples are free to read. The placement test is also free; an account is required to see its result. A free account does not unlock paid member exams.
Are these live classes with a teacher?
No. The current lessons are online self-study material with English explanations and German examples. Classroom and teacher photographs are illustrative stock images, not evidence of live tuition or a physical Novalis Academy campus.
Can Novalis Academy issue an official German exam certificate?
No. A Novalis Academy completion certificate is a private academy record, not a Goethe, telc, TestDaF or other official language qualification. It does not guarantee admission, employment, professional recognition or a visa.
Can I buy a course or certificate now?
No. Checkout is not connected. Course prices are sample catalog prices in USD, and certificate purchasing is unavailable. You can still explore free starter lessons and take the free placement test.
